Short Mat Bowls

Short Mat bowls are played in the clubhouse from October to April both during the day and in the evening. Facilities are good with two mats available and with the assistance of the “New” overhead lighting.

The Club Bar is also open during the evening sessions.[Why not have a drink with your team, your opposition and other club friends, after you have played your match?]

Monday  sessions,  for new and improving players in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Roll-up Sessions [bookable] from 1000 – 1345 & 1700 – 1900. TURN UP AND BOWL [Teams]  1400 -1700.

Established players are usually members of teams and play in either the day or evening leagues, sometimes both. The Day and Evening Leagues are split into First and Second Divisions, so that players of “all” abilities get the opportunity to play. Annual competitions are organised with a Finals Day in April.

There is a Short Mat Charity Day, played every season in February, which is always a well supported event and many local charities have benefited considerably over the years.

There are three internal Tournaments. The Blanche Sampson and Wally Lang Trophies, run on a “Round Robin” basis at the end of the indoor season and The Friendly Trophy, which is played on a Sunday during the season in memory of  Geoff Riley who was a previous Short Mat Chairman.

Friendly Matches are also organised, throughout the season, with other local clubs. [Members affiliated to DSMBA are eligable to play.
